The Tempe History Museum with kids is a fun way to learn about local history. This free museum is located next door to the Tempe Library. The museum explores the history of Tempe with many interesting artifacts and an interactive kids area, which includes a motorcycle and fruit truck for kids to climb on!

The kids area also has a room with books and coloring pages and a radio that plays old time music. They even have a stage area with career costumes for little kids- complete with a curtain!

My kids love to create plays and use a kiosk to create postcards with their picture and pictures of Tempe’s history! It’s a great place to engage your kids in history and a great free activity to escape the heat of the summer.

The Tempe History Museum also hosts many events, including the Tempe Time Machine. These summer events are perfect for children of all ages and includes crafts, stories, activities, and demonstrations to bring history to life.

The first event of summer 2024 was entitled “Who do kids cheer for” and focused on sports mascots throughout Tempe history. They had multiple crafts and their volunteers are wonderful and so willing to help kids with their art. They had dancing with mascots and an area with old toys to play with. We also made team pendants and pom poms. My 3 yo loved using her pom poms while she danced with the cow mascot!

They also had a bingo game in which kids had to search for signs throughout the museum. This was a great way for encourage my 8 yo to visit parts of the museum he doesn’t usually visit!

We loved visiting the Tempe History Museum and attending the Tempe Time Machine. My kids loved the crafts and had a blast exploring the exhibits. Definitely add it to your list of summer activities!

The Tempe History Museum is located at 809 E Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282. The museum is open Tuesday- Saturday, 10 am-5 pm. The Tempe Time Machine occurs Wednesdays during the summer from 9 am-1 pm. No registration is required.
