Looking for something unique to do on a weekend? Check out ImprovMania, a comedy club for kids and adults that offers one hour shows full of hilarious skits and songs, set to live music.

I had a chance to see their 7pm Saturday night show recently with a group of friends. They are open every Friday and Saturday night, with the 7pm being family friendly and the 9pm uncensored. It was a great evening that kept me laughing (and groaning, but the puns were pretty good). The family friendly time also had high school improv students, and I was impressed with their talent.

Think of this as an interactive show, in the style of “Whose Line is it Anyway”. There are 7-8 actors and based upon suggestions from the audience, such as an occupation or a location, they will improv scenes. One of my favorite skits was called Hitchhiker, where two people were pretending to be driving and picked up hitchhikers along the way. However, unknown to them (but to the audience), the hitchhiker had a specific name, such as SuperWoman or Christmas or the movie Fight Club. In the process of conversation and asking questions, the drivers had to correctly guess the hitchhikers names. Trust me, it’s very funny how this gets accomplished!

Also, if you visit for a birthday be sure to mention it when you arrive. They may make the special person part of their show!

This would be a perfect outing for visiting relatives (plenty of food options within walking distance), a family event, celebrating a teen birthday, or just to lift your spirits and get the smile back.

Getting there

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. ImprovMania also does improv classes for kids, teens and adults as well as corporate shows.
