Freestone Park in Gilbert

Freestone Park in Gilbert was the city’s first major park opening in 1988. Additional acreage has been added over time and they keep adding and improving on this amazing facility. This park also hosts the “Freestone Railroad” which has a miniature train, antique carousel, mini ferris wheel, wave runner and more.

The little kids playground here is one of my all time favorites. Sitting in the far south of the park, past the baseball fields, you can easily pull in and visit only this playground. The equipment sits in wood chips and is to stories tall. The best part, you can’t get to the second story without climbing, so no fear of your little one maneuvering their way to the second level and falling, or in my kids case, jumping down. There are music related activities for the kids to play, three slides, bridges and it is under a cover that provides shade most of the day. There are no toddler swings over by this playground.

The big kids playground, located between the north and south lakes is a climbers dream. There are stairs up to slides, 2 swings and so many different things to climb on that I don’t even know what to call them all! There is a restroom and ramadas right next to it, perfect for an outdoor party.

There is a wheelchair accessible playground located on the west side of the park, closest to Lindsey road as well.

Freestone Railroad

One of the fun features this park offers is the Freestone Railroad. Each ride has height restrictions. Most were 32 inches. Each person riding along requires a ticket as well. However, I convinced them to let me ride for free since I just needed to be there for a little extra safety. Individual up to all day passes are available for purchase. There is also a snack bar and seating for eating. This fun zone is not always open so check the hours before planning on visiting this area. For hours and information on the railroad, amusement park as well as a coupon for an all day ride band please visit their website.

This park offers many options for easy picnics, 3 reservable ramadas, 6 shaded picnic tables, 7 open picnic tables. There are benches and seating throughout the park as well. For information on reservations click here.
