Tonight we’ll be packing up the family and heading over to Tempe Marketplace for their First Snow Fall & Holiday Tree Lighting event!

Join Tempe Marketplace and 99.9 KEZ’s Marty Manning as we kick off the holiday season! We will start the night with a holiday ice skating performance in front of the District Stage, followed by our 60-foot holiday tree lighting. Then, at 7pm, it will magically snow for the first time this holiday season.

Officially, the event begins at 6:30 pm, but we’re planning to get dinner before hand and do some shopping with friends! We think our two-year old daughter will really like watching the snowfall (not sure even now how they plan to pull that off? Maybe they are bringing in some sort of snow blower and tossing snow into it?).

They also will have a stage set up for ice skating (it’s a performance, so I don’t think just anybody can skate). They’re also going to have KEZ’s Marty Manning playing some music, which will be Christmas music, I presume, since they’ve been playing it for over a week already on the radio.

See you there!

Update: We attended the event and while we had a good time, and our daughter keeps talking about the snow, there are a few things you should know. First, it was packed. We got there at 6:30 and we could barely see over the crowd to see the “ice skating.” I say ice skating, because they really had some sort of styrofoam boards placed down.

The snowmakers were set atop the roofs of the buildings, and blew out this soapy substance. After about 20 minutes of that my hair smelled like a hair salon. When I got home I had to take a shower, and my camera needs to have the lens cleaned, too. Oh, and that soapy substance does look like real snow! It also makes the pavement incredibly slippery. Watch out!
