Cactus Park may be known for its aquatics center, which is one of the best in the valley, but it also has over 17 acres of lush grassy play area that are great for kids and adults! This park is only about 5 minutes from our home, and so we’ve been heading over there more often now that summer is coming to an end in Arizona.
Speaking of summer coming to an end, it’s starting to be really nice outside! But, since it’s still a little bit hot in the sun, we’ve been scouting out parks with shaded play areas. Cactus Park is one of the parks in Scottsdale that has a fully shaded play area.
Playground area
The play area is large, and has two primary playground structures: one for older kids, and another for younger kids.
We visited on a recent weekend and were rewarded with light crowds, beautiful September weather, and clean and fairly new playground equipment.
The playground is covered by a huge shade net, and it does a great job of keeping the playground cool. It had rained the day before, and the park was a little bit muddy, but not in the playground area.
Picnic areas
If you’re looking for a place to have a picnic, there are two reservable ramadas, as well as 1 drop-in ramada. There are also picnic tables located around the park.

Fitness Amenities
The park has a public swimming and diving pool with a full aquatic program. The pool is heated during the fall and winter months. Check the website for schedules because the pool is used for laps, diving, and fitness classes. This pool isn’t really a “casual swimming” pool in the general sense.
The park offers 1 full, and 2 half basketball courts (lighted at night).
The park also offers one sand volleyball court (also lighted).
Indoors, they have a weight room, and cardio room, and staff are available for coaching and to help you develop a fitness program.
