Cactus Clubhouse for Kids at the Desert Botanical Garden

I never really thought that the Desert Botanical Garden would be a place that my kids would enjoy. I thought they would be so bored looking at the plants and would inevitably touch a cactus. I didn't know that the garden has the Cactus Clubhouse- an area specifically for kids to explore, use their imagination, and learn about the beauty of the desert.

I didn’t know that the garden has the Cactus Clubhouse- an area specifically for kids to explore, use their imagination, and learn about the beauty of the desert!

Last year I visited the Cactus Clubhouse in their completely outdoor location. My kids loved it, but as the weather heated up, there was no place to escape the heat. This year, due to construction, they moved to a new location in the Weisz Learning Center that includes both an indoor and an outdoor space, which has allowed them to expand the amount of activities that they offer.

Inside, they have a reading area with books about the desert and comfortable options for sitting and reading. They also have an area with coloring pages, toys, and puzzles to play with. My kids loved putting together the wooden cactus and attempting to make the biggest tower of balancing blocks!

Outside, they have plenty of nature-based activities that appeal to a variety of interests. All of my kids found something that they enjoyed, which is quite a feat! My 3 yo was especially drawn to the “fairy village”- an area with building and toy fairies! Meanwhile, my 8 yo spent most of their time building a structure with large sticks and my 6 yo and 5 yo played at the water table. There is an also an area for dress up and music-both were big hits for my kids.

The educators in the clubhouse are wonderful. They engaged with the kids and were willing to answer any questions that they had.

We were completely impressed with the Cactus Clubhouse. The option of choosing indoor or outdoor play is a great addition and the variety of activities kept my kids engaged the entire time we were there!

The Cactus Clubhouse is open Thursday-Sunday from 9 am- 3:30 pm, October 1-May 11. It is included in your admission to the Desert Botanical Garden. The garden is located at 1201 N Galvin Parkway Phoenix, AZ 85008, see their website for more details.
